CYI: THE LURKING DANGER: EXTREME TEMPERATURES, HEAT STRESS AND FORCED MIGRATION

A new international study led by scientists from the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) of The Cyprus Institute and the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry predicts that ignoring the signals of climate change and continuing business-as-usual will lead to extreme and life-threatening heatwaves in the region. Such extraordinary heat events will have a severe impact on the people of the area.

COVTRACER-EN tracing app

In Cyprus, CovTracer - Exposure Notification (CovTracer-EN) has been developed under the coordination of the National Electronic Health Authority, and the advisory role of the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy (DMRID) together with the Ministry of Health. The development of the application has been entrusted to the KIOS center of excellence along with the CYENS center of excellence.

THE NATIONAL AND KAPODISTRIAN UNIVERSITY OF ATHENS IS INVOLVED IN CAPACITY BUILDING OF AFRICAN UNIVERSITIES

The 3-year Erasmus+ project under the title “Humanitarian Action: Climate Change and Displacements” (HumAct) was launched in late January 2021. It is a partnership between the European countries of Portugal and Greece and the African countries of Mozambique and Cape Verde.
