European Innovation Council (EIC) – EIC Accelerator implementation back on track amid continued strong interest

The European Commission approved the payment of 20 grants to companies selected for blended finance under the EIC Accelerator in June 2021, with a further 7 to follow before the end of the month. Together with the announcement of the first direct equity investment in French company SiPearl on 14 June 2022, it marks an important step towards normalisation of the EIC Accelerator implementation, after delays due to restructuring of the EIC Fund. Applications for the EIC Accelerator in the June 2022 cut-off remain strong, signaling a continued interest and relevance of the instrument.

#TheGreenTrack campaign completes successful journey

#TheGreenTrack campaign, launched by the European Commission in collaboration with the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) and Biodiversity Action Europe (BAE), has drawn to a successful conclusion. The campaign has enabled young people across Europe to voice their hopes and concerns about nature, biodiversity and Europe’s sustainable future. Over the past several months, the Green Track effectively mobilised thousands of young Europeans, ahead of CBD COP 15, the major UN Biodiversity Conference scheduled for December this year, where a new global framework for nature protection will be agreed.

Ukraine joins the LIFE programme for environment and climate

On 24 of June, in Kyiv, Ukraine, Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries VirginijusSinkevičiusand theMinister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets jointly signed an agreement on Ukraine’s accession to the LIFE programme for environment and climate. Ukraine is the first non-EU country to join the programme. By joining the LIFE programme, Ukraine could benefit from LIFE’s support to help restore its environment after the destruction brought about by the Russian invasion, be it pollution, destruction of ecosystems, or other long-term effects.
