The Orthodox Church of Cyprus has ten Metropolitan regions within Cyprus and more than 300 parishes. The head of the Church of Cyprus is His Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostomos II. The Church of Cyprus, apart from its spiritual orientation, has a wide social activity with different aspects in the fields of social contribution, social entrepreneurship and cultural and environmental heritage preservation as well as the fields of energy and the youth. Toward the enhancement of this activity, the Church of Cyprus has established “FILOKALIA”, a non-governmental and non-profit organization.
“FILOKALIA” in ancient Greek means the love of the beautiful, the good; as such the scope of “FILOKALIA” is to support and educate children, young people and adults to participate in activities that promote the principles of the common good within Europe.
“FILOKALIA” has the aim to support educational and cultural activities for children, young people and adults, activities against poverty and unemployment in order to enhance people’s quality of life as well as activities in the fields of cultural and environmental heritage preservation.
