The European Commission has launched a public consultation, on 18 July 2016 regarding an EU electricity and gas network. The Commission would like to gather the opinions of stakeholders in the electricity and gas sectors on the priorities for the development of network codes and guidelines from 2017 onwards.
In the past, grid operation and trading rules were drawn-up nationally. Nowadays, EU countries are increasingly interconnected and so EU-wide rules have become necessary to manage transnational electricity and gas flows. Through this consultation, the European Commission seeks the opinion of important stakeholders like for instance, public authorities, private organisations, industry associations and SMEs, while the deadline for submitting their opinion is on 14 October 2016.
