Paralimni is situated in the southeast of Cyprus also known as Kokkinohoria. Over the last few decades, the community has been transformed into a rich little town developed economically, socially and culturally.

The name Paralimni derives from the lake formed between the area of Paralimni and Sotira and the name Kokkinohoria from the reddish colour of the ground in that area as “kokkino” means red. In the east of the community there is the coastal area Protaras which has experienced great economical and touristic development. Paralimni was declared a municipality in 1986 after a referendum.
